saw how much I mean to these people and how much they mean to me.
missed associating the word "tomorrow" with Costa Rica.
realized I am going to miss daydreaming about Washington.
learned what it feels like to have some one sob in your arms.
smiled when I saw God in the sun -- the same sun that shines all over our planet.

Hola.
After graduating from Anacortes High School in Washington in June 2009, I decided to fly south and work in the slums of La Carpio, Costa Rica for nine months instead of heading straight to college. I ate lots of rice and beans, saw God in homeless faces, and taught math and typing to at risk teenage girls.
I learned more from them than I can ever hope to teach.
