After graduating from Anacortes High School in Washington in June 2009, I decided to fly south and work in the slums of La Carpio, Costa Rica for nine months instead of heading straight to college. I ate lots of rice and beans, saw God in homeless faces, and taught math and typing to at risk teenage girls. I learned more from them than I can ever hope to teach.
